The runoff election in Lewisville's Place 1 Council race between Leroy Vaughn and Mike McCary will be held June 18th, according to City Secretary Julie Heinze. Early voting will be June 6th - 14th at the Municipal Annex on Main Street.
Registered voters may vote in the runoff election regardless of whether they voted in the election on May 14th.
Vaughn and McCary must face each other in a runoff election because in their three-way race with G. Austin Avery, neither of the candidates received more than 50% of the vote. Vaughn was the top vote-getter with 901 votes, or 47.72%. McCary was second with 886 votes, or 46.93%.

Re: Lewisville to Hold Runoff Election June 18th
I can't believe the city of Lewisville chose not to show up and vote to keep this man out of their city council. Mike McCary is poison to everything he touches. The only thing he's done good in his life is when he chose to stay out of ALL of his children's lives and upbringing...

Re: Lewisville to Hold Runoff Election June 18th
WOW! That is direct and to the point! I don't know this man on the kind of level that you speak of, but I tell you what...If any one person went to any of the forums he spoke at(if you can call it that), it seems to me if they had any scence at all, they would have voted for VAUGHN. As far as I am concerned, he needs a bunch more experience under his belt, before he runs for the big job of City Council! Ideals are great all day long, but put them to use and see what comes of it. That is the experience you need to reference.
I completely agree. McCary knows nothing about the real issues facing Lewisville, and has shown no interest in learning about them. He's only interested in getting rid of renters, enforcing city code, and promoting his racist agenda. I'll be begging everyone I know to get out and vote against this man.
I can't speak for the commenter, but I'm convinced that McCary is a racist. Not just his bigoted comments in public forums and his reference to Farmers Branch "paving the way to regain our American way of life", but because of things I'm not really ready to publish.
His agenda, I think is one of scapegoating and alienating anyone who doesn't live exactly like he does: people with different socio-economic status, race, ethnicity, creed or religion. He thinks census and enrollment data from LISD showing an increase in Hispanics amounts to actionable data.
We already have an ignorant bigot on the City Council: John Gorena. The ignorant bigots are already well-represented. That's why I'm baffled that many otherwise upstanding and intelligent citizens have voted for the guy. He must be charming in person. He's refused my interview request.
If I had to guess their agenda, it's doing whatever it takes to make sure that Hispanics don't feel welcome in Lewisville:
- English-only ordinance - Illegal Farmers-Branch-style rental permits - Illegal moratoriums on multi-family housing - Illegal profiling of citizens, abusing the 287(g) program. - Illegal bans on day labor - Restrictions on how many people can live in a house.
Who knows what else they'll come up with?

Re: Lewisville to Hold Runoff Election June 18th
Steve, could you put a banner on your homepage with the runoff election details so that the date and voting locations are clear? Lewisville really needs to turn out for this one!
It was announced at the council meeting tonight that the Annex will be the place for all voting. I would invite all the interested parties above to contact me about getting the word out to fellow citizens and vote for Leroy. If the commenters above all got 5 people to the poll it would make a difference.
Let's put the racial aspect aside. This is a simple job interview with one candidate having several years' experience in city affairs and the other with none. Talking about McCary's past and whether he needs to evolve only destracts from the core issue, and that's what the other side wants.

Re: Lewisville to Hold Runoff Election June 18th
Why would I need to contact you to get the vote out? I think I can handle that on my own through e-mail, phone calls, etc. to my friends. And, while I think that you are correct about this being a job interview where one candidate has a strong background with city involvement and the other one doesn't, the RACIST [not racial] aspect is important as well in a city with, just guessing, 40% Hispanics. Even if Lewisville only had 1% Hispanics, racism against them shouldn't be tolerated and should be spoken out against!

Re: Lewisville to Hold Runoff Election June 18th
I understand that you want to stick to the facts but how a person is with their family says a great deal about him or her as a person. I know that at least three of his children at some point in time have tried to have a relationship with him. The problem is though... only on his terms. If they do not follow his very controlling ways he is done with them. He, at this time, has nothing to do with all four (maybe a fifth).
