Lewisville Rotary recognized Austin Taylor as its Student of the Month for February 2012 at a recent meeting. Each month during the school term, Lewisville Rotary recognizes an outstanding student from the Lewisville High School campus as selected by teachers and administrative staff at the school. The student is normally accompanied by family and the school’s principal, Mr. Brad Burns, to Rotary’s regular lunch meeting on the third Wednesday of the month to receive a plaque and recognition before the club. Austin is the son of Lisa and Lee Taylor of Lewisville.
Mr. Burns provided the following information regarding Austin to the club’s members:
Austin has been a part of the LISD system since kindergarten, starting at Valley Ridge Elementary and continuing through Huffines Middle School and the Killough Campus prior to LHS. He joined Student Council his freshman year and is currently our Senior Student Body Secretary, Parliamentarian and Community Service Liaison. Austin has also been a member of the Bowling Club and National Honor Society for the last 3 years.
Austin ranks 60th out of 790 students putting him in the top 10% of his graduating class.
Outside of school activities, Austin is a student leader in Young Life and he has been in Boy Scouts for 10 years where he has earned the honor of being an Eagle Scout.
Receiving an In State Tuition Scholarship, Austin will be attending the University of Arkansas where plans to major in History with a minor in Political Science. After 8 years of college, his goal is to work in a law firm and possibly some day run for local, state and maybe even a national office.
