Realtors, Teachers Make Endorsements in Local Races

Lewisville ISD Notes

Open in new windowThe Greater Lewisville Association of Realtors, and the United Educators Association have both recently offered endorsements in the Lewisville ISD School Board races, and in GLAR's case, the City Council races.

Open in new windowIn the Lewisville ISD Races, GLAR endorsed:
Place 1: Former Trustee Kathy Duke
Place 2: School Board President Vernell Gregg

GLAR made endorsements after meeting with candidates, who completed questionnaires.

The United Educators Association (UEA) has endorsed:
Place 1: Dr. June Ehinger
Place 2: Cornel Bekker

UEA, which represents classroom teachers and paraprofessionals solicited questions from their membership, narrowing them down to 12 topics. UEA LISD Chapter President Mike Bowden said that the organization chose candidates based on their likelihood to consider that information presented by the administration will not always reflect the views of teachers. The group wanted to make sure that candidates would consider all points of view.

The Realtors weighed in on local City Council races too:

Lewisville:
Mayor: Dean Ueckert
Council Place 2: Neil Ferguson

Flower Mound:
Mayor: Tom Hayden
Council Place 2: Bryan Webb
Council Place 4: Steve Dixon

Highland Village:
Mayor: Bill Irwin
Council Place 4: Louis Robichaux
Council Place 5: Fred Busche

These are the same realtors that own many of the substandard rental properties on the East side.

These may very well be the best candidates, but GLAR like so many other special interest groups will support the candidates that they feel will carry the water for their agenda. And furthermore many times the members who are heavy contributors to the PAC will dictate which candidates get the endorsements. Just a dose of reality.

Re: Realtors, Teachers Make Endorsements in Local Races
Will do. It's safe to say that Dean Ueckert and Neil Ferguson have my vote in Lewisville, but I'll hopefully get time to write out the full rationale.

I'm still not settled on the school board races though. I think most of the candidates there are dedicated, and would do a fine job, so I probably need to talk to them more. It's made tougher when you consider them friends, and have to choose one or the other.
