Local News, Notes and Events

LTJ Writers Brandon and Steve were both in attendance at Thursday's Lewisville Task Force candidate forum. The Task Force held a forum in which Lewisville City Council and Lewisville ISD candidates were given time to introduce themselves and respond to some prepared questions submitted by the audience.

Despite our offer to tape the forum, the Lewisville Task Force elected to do their own video of the event, so LTJ doesn't have video, but hopefully the Task Force will make it available soon on their website.

Steve is running behind on putting together election information, but the following are Brandon's notes, which are pretty good:

Am puzzled why your offer to video the meeting, so those of us who had to work could view the forum, was declined. I just went to the LTF website and I couldn't find any video. With 7 people running for the LISD Board I'd like to hear all of their opinions.
Why were only 4 LISD candidates at this event ?? I know there is Candidate Forum for the LISD Board on 4/24 but it seems to me all of the candidates would want to speak at every possible venue.
Steve will you be filming the 4/24 forum?

I was just told that they were doing it. It's probably about appearances. Truthfully though, you know I would have just taped the whole thing and posted it unedited. Pretty much like I used to do the school board meetings...

 Links, Tabs, Etc.
Looks like links to external pages are opening in the frame instead of a new tab, but there's not much Steve or I can do about that. If this is a problem for you, right click on the link and click "Open Link in a New Tab" in Chrome or Firefox. Not sure about IE.

Brandon - are you referring to the links in your notes? If so, those opened great. (for me) Thanks for all the info.....

Just glancing at the notes that Brandon provided, they seem pretty bias to me. From reading these, I am guessing that Brandon is supporting Dr. June Ehinger? I heard her say that she had lived in the district for a year but that she had visited the district for about 5 years because her grandchildren live here. Brandon's notes say she has lived here 15 years. I also wish that she had addressed the question posed to her by the lady on the end about a slush fund in the Oklahoma school board where she came from that is being investigated. That question wasn't in Brandon's notes either. I too am eagerly awaiting the video from Lewisville Task Force. I ran into one of them this weekend and she said they are diligently working on it. I appreciate those ladies doing all they do to try to help Lewisville.

I admit that my 9 pages of free notes, comprising over 2,300 words, links, and headings, may not be perfect, but I'll tell you what, post your name and next time I'll hand-deliver them to you to proofread.

Next time, actually read my notes. I quoted the question here. It was an effort to smear Dr. Ehinger's reputation, and it was also misplaced. The slush fund in question was engineered by the Oklahoma Education Department. As clearly stated on her about page, Dr. Ehinger worked for the Oklahoma State School Boards Association, a different organization with different funding and a different purpose, completely unrelated to the fund in question. A scintilla of research beforehand would have shown that.

Without the video, I don't know what the 15 years might have referred to. The pace was so fast that I couldn't keep up with hand-written notes at all. My tape recorder was messed up and wouldn't record. Brandon was typing like a mad man.

Re: Notes from Lewisville Task Force Candidate Forum
The mayor said "In the three years I've been mayor, I've received very few complaints." I noticed he did not answer the question about the homes with junk in the yards.

Three years ago I wrote the new mayor with concerns about code and building enforcement in Old Town. 3 years later there has been little, if any improvement. I have talked to the mayor, the council and the Assistant City Manager about my perception that the city is not enforcing the rules here.

One year ago Steve wrote in this blog: "Fvaughan and I hopped in his truck, and he showed me some of the "sights" in his neighborhood: Abandoned houses, single-family houses illegally converted to duplexes, homes with unsafe or illegal construction added on, hovels with garbage and junk strewn about the lawns, houses with multiple shacks and sheds in the yard - some of which might be getting used as dwellings, a standalone garage that someone converted to a house, industrial locations with no screening walls, and junk strewn about, broken windows, and the list goes on. All within blocks of our gleaming new City Hall and Arts Center."

I invited Steve's candidates to go on a tour of Old Town and each one has turned down the offer.

Still no changes.

So, we quit complaining because it does no good..

If you want to join me on a Saturday tour, I can show you the other side of Lewisville.

 By the way...
It's a little frustrating that no video has been released from this event. If there are only 50 or so people at an event and you're trying to increase awareness, that doesn't help. People shouldn't have to rely on my notes to find out how it went.
