Lewisville Texan Journal is always interested to know what our readers think about local elections. Here are our polls for the 2012 Municipal Elections in Lewisville, Lewisville ISD, and Flower Mound.

If these polls don't work in your browser, try these links: Lewisville Mayor, Lewisville Place 2, Lewisville ISD Place 1, Lewisville ISD Place 2, Flower Mound Mayor, Flower Mound Place 2, Flower Mound Place 4

(Please see notes at the bottom of this post)

Note:
LTJ Web Polls are not scientific, and reflect the views of those who choose to participate. Readers are reminded that the only poll that really matters is the election itself. Please go out and vote your conscience regardless of what the polls here might seem to indicate about your race. Your candidate doesn't need people to take it for granted that they will win or lose. VOTE!

Steve, your polls gave two different stats. Which is more up-to-date?

They tend to swing wildly at first when there are very few votes. They update to the most recent each time you reload the page.

I'm not entirely happy with these polling widgets though, because they don't tend to work well with Internet Explorer. We may be looking for a new service for the next election.

Hmm... seems as though the two Lewisville City Council polls don't have a "Cast Your Vote" button for me on Chrome or Firefox. Not sure what this "Internet Explorer" thing you talk about is.

Also, Al Cloud FTW.

I see you posted a link to the surveys on Flower Mound Cares. Have you posted links on other sites or just that one? If so where.

Re: LTJ Polls: Municipal Elections 2012
I shared it in the City of Lewisville group, and some other groups that I belong to. I encourage others to do the same, if you are in a group with members from the area. The more widespread it gets shared, the more people participate, and the closer to accurate it gets. Looks like at the moment, with 33 shares, it's probably gotten out there.

BTW, I'm kind of surprised at the results so far for Flower Mound: very close. I would have figured they would skew a bit towards NFL, since I shared the link in the FM Cares group to start with.

Thanks for answering. I'm puzzled by the Flower Mound results also. I would have thought that it would skew NFL also since the only link I've seen is there. Only time will tell though.

Re: LTJ Polls: Municipal Elections 2012
Is there a way to show how many people have voted for each candidate? The percentages in races like the Lewisville mayoral election are very far apart but it would be nice to know the population size for each office. Also, is there a way just to view the percentage votes without voting again?

Re: LTJ Polls: Municipal Elections 2012
Unfortunately, these little widgets don't display the number of individual votes to anyone - including me. But they do give me the total numbers when I'm logged into my Vizu account. As far as I can tell, there's no way for the public to see the numbers, which is frustrating.

Here are the current counts as of 2:48 p.m. on 4/28/2012:
Lewisville Mayor: 120
Lewisville Council #2: 111
LISD Place 1: 204
LISD Place 2: 188
Flower Mound Mayor: 140
Flower Mound Council #2: 125
Flower Mound Council #4: 117

Re: LTJ Polls: Municipal Elections 2012
Actually, anyone can see these same tally numbers. Just click on one of the links you gave for a given race. On that page, click on "Not for me...show the results >>" found immediate under the "Cast Your Vote!" button to avoid voting again. This page will show the total votes for a give race, and a map of the server locations where the vote came through.

Since someone sitting in Lewisville may be using a server in Kansas or wherever but not know it, their vote may appear to come from Kansas. So the map is not that all that useful.

The total count in the upper right corner can be multiplied by the percentage of votes shown on the bar chart below to tell you how many votes that person got.

It is all there for anyone. You just have to click a couple of places to get to it.

Call me lazy but I'd rather see the data in the format that Steve's example above shows instead of hunting and pecking to find the answer with the current widget he is using.

I was stating a preference for the example layout that Steve posted and I get Americans slammed for being fat? Steve himself posted that he wasn't entirely happy with the poll widget that he is currently using but go ahead and attack me. No wonder Americans are so rude...they can post slams anonymously without repercussions. [BTW, I think my statement is truer than yours!]

Re: LTJ Polls: Municipal Elections 2012
In these days of media overload and short attention spans, I think it's too much to ask to send people to two different pages, and make them do their own arithmetic to figure out what's going on with a poll.

I'm going to use the new poll widget on the next round of polls that I do, and we will see if that helps with participation and usefulness.

Of course, what I'd really like to be able to do is hire a true pollster to conduct scientifically valid polls of registered voters. But we are going to have to sell a lot more ads to cover that cost. ;)

You should've just called this guy lazy like he asked everyone to. Then he wouldn't have needed to work so hard to post back at you. Guess we're both supposed to now believe obesity and laziness aren't be related. Somewhere I also got the idea they were.

 Poll accuracy
We're not going to claim that these polls are scientific, but they were remarkably accurate for this election. Every single poll correctly predicted the winner.

Lewisville Mayor's race: (n=155)
Predicted 81.9% for Ueckert
Actual 71.23%
Difference: +10.67

Lewisville Council Place 2: (n=154)
Predicted 80.5% for Ferguson
Actual 55.28%
Difference: +25.23

(We think these numbers tend to skew towards our editorial recommendations, since we cover Lewisville closely, and endorsed both Ueckert and Ferguson)

Lewisville ISD - Place 1: (n=264)
Predicted 61.4% for Kathy Duke
Actual 61.62%
Difference: -0.22

Lewisville ISD - Place 2: (n=246)
Predicted 74.8% for Trisha Sheffield
Actual 52.03%
Difference: +22.77

(We did not make endorsements in these races)

Flower Mound Mayor: (n=208)
Predicted 63.5% for Tom Hayden
Actual 64.54%
Difference: -1.04

Flower Mound Council - Place 2: (n=197)
Predicted 66.5% for Bryan Webb
Actual 63.65%
Difference +2.85

Flower Mound Council - Place 4: (n=178)
Predicted 64% for Steve Dixon
Actual 61.28%
Difference +2.72

(We did not make endorsements in these races)
