Slugs attack mushrooms in this time-lapse video produced by my son. You have to see this; it's amazing how these things attack the mushrooms like a swarm. He had been trying to just capture the mushroom's rapid growth, and was really surprised the next morning reviewing the tape. Future filmmaker, this one. He's got a whole series of gardening videos.
A McKinney man thought police and the dollar store were conspiring against him, so he set the place on fire. Just glad the guy didn't have a gun. Public mental health services are important, and probably have huge payback to society in spite of the cost.
That slug video really is amazing. Poor mushroom never had a chance to grow. Has your son been able to capture a mushroom growing overnight? That would be interesting to see. I find slugs to be one of the most disgusting creatures.
Wow - who knew slugs hunted in packs? Pretty cool.
It reminded me of my daughter's moldy hamburger science project. It was meant to see if fast food burgers would mold or not... Guess what, they do not appear to mold at all... Katy's Fast Food Moldy Burger Project
This was his first attempt at capturing mushrooms. There were several mushrooms that had started to sprout - and they do come up quickly, just within a few hours. Several of them had popped up in the afternoon that were not there in the morning that day as he had used manure and peat to enrich the soil a couple weeks before. That night, the slugs got each and every mushroom, including the one that had just barely surfaced. They ate all the way down into the ground to the bottom of the mushrooms. I think he would like to capture one if he could. He's enjoyed doing the time lapse thing with them.
Here's another time lapse he took of his plants perking back up after watering:
