Tonight's musical interlude comes from the Killdares, who recently played a free concert at the Medical Center of Lewisville Grand theater as part of the Sounds of Lewisville summer concert series. Seeing the Killdares was a birthday wish come true for Councilman Neil Ferguson (right) who turns 60 Friday.
Lewisville to lose 800 jobs to Irving, as Nationstar Mortgage moves its call center there. Although it will probably impact the business property tax base, I don't expect this will impact employment much, since Irving is an easy commute.
WFAA has a report of a SWAT deployment in Lewisville the other night, when two armed robbery suspects refused to come out of a house. Here's what Lewisville Police had to say after the incident:
As previously reported, around 5:15 p.m. on June 19, 2012, Lewisville Police Officers were dispatched on an aggravated robbery that took place in the 600 block of Milton Street. An ice cream vendor had been robbed at gunpoint by two black males. The victim was uninjured and an undetermined amount of cash was taken from him.
The suspects fled and witnesses saw them enter a residence in the area. Officers quickly responded to the scene and secured a perimeter around the residence. SWAT and police negotiators responded, as well. Police negotiated with the suspects for several hours. Ultimately, chemical agents were introduced into the home and the suspects surrendered.
At that time, the suspects were both arrested for criminal trespass of a habitation. Today, the investigation into the initial robbery continued. Detectives are now also charging both men with aggravated robbery.
Charged in connection with these offenses are Devonta Ward and Vernon Warfield, both 18 year-olds from Lewisville.

Two things regarding the smoking ban:
1) I've been to the Flying Pig once and won't go back. It was clouded with smoke worse than any place I've been since the '80s! I went home and had to shower to get the smell out of my hair and off my body before I went to bed. I took my clothes and placed them outside on the back porch to air out overnight before I brought them in the house the next day to wash them. Nasty! Other clubs/bars that I've been to didn't affect me the same way. I don't know what the difference is with The Pig...more smokers or a bad ventilation system but I'll never go back!
2) Why did they interview John Gorena? Did he call them for the story so he could get his jab in about a few people trying to affect the lives of the many? Just my take John...we elected city councilman to make the tough decisions. Everything doesn't need to be taken to a vote of the citizenry. Elections cost money! Do the right thing on July 2 and ban smoking at least from restaurants!
Flying Pig: Totally agree. That place is about the nastiest in terms of air quality. They must have just terrible ventilation. It's a shame, because it's a nice location, and otherwise decent place. But if I can't breathe there, I can't go there. I go to other places that allow smoking, and they're not 1/4th as bad as Flying Pig. Those guys could do a lot better if they would get some ventilation. As I've mentioned to some, I'm not 100% sold on the idea of mandating a smoke-free Lewisville - leaning towards it, but trying to think how we can accomplish the goal with the least heavy hand. I think whether or not we pass this smoking ban, there ought to at least be an ordinance about ventilation for places that choose to allow it.
Gorena: He's in his re-election year. Expect to see him playing it up for the cameras every chance he gets. I really would like for once to see the guy have an original thought that isn't a simple regurgitation of ideological drivel. My understanding is that at least one TV station called City Hall and asked for councilmen who wanted to speak on the issue.
