Two brothers, Harly Parada (15) and and Rony Parada (17) of Richardson drowned Sunday afternoon in Lewisville Lake while on a family outing at Lake Park. A third brother was able to swim to safety. The first 911 call came in via Denton County, and Lewisville dispatchers were notified at 5:10 p.m. A police incident report says that divers from LFD were in the water at 5:34 p.m. Witnesses said they had seen the boys go under, but not come back up. Fire Chief Tim Tittle said that divers from Lewisville Fire Department located one of the boys at 5:40, and attempted to revive him. He was taken to Medical Center of Lewisville, where he was pronounced dead. The second victim, was located at 6:49 p.m., and was pronounced dead on the scene.
The police report says that the water in the area ranged from 4 to 10 feet deep. Witnesses told police that the three brothers had been swimming together, but when the storms started rolling in, they began swimming back to shore. Rony and the other brother made it back, but noticed that Harly was having a hard time. They speculated that Harly was tired. Rony went back into the lake to save his brother, but they fought against waves that were increased due to the weather. Both boys disappeared after a few minutes. The boys' father said that both boys knew how to swim, but speculated that they may have just been tired.
The Denton County Medical Examiner has taken over the investigation.
This makes a total of three drowning victims claimed by Lewisville Lake this weekend. On Saturday, a woman was found floating near the shore in Oak Park in Hickory Creek.
Lewisville Texan Journal reminds its readers never to swim alone, and use life jackets when swimming in the lake.
