Lewisville Police investigated a suicide that took place on Wednesday, July 4th. Just after 12:30 p.m., callers to 9-1-1 reported that a woman had stopped on the S.H. 121 bypass bridge over I-35 that allows West-bound 121 traffic to enter South-bound I-35. The callers were worried that the woman would jump. North Texas Tollway Authority staff were watching the incident unfold via their traffic cameras.
A DPS trooper arrived shortly after that and was first on the scene. The woman at first told the state trooper that she was a freelance photographer, and had cooperated with him until the poin that she broke free, and ran and jumped over the wall. The 36 year old woman from Carrollton jumped to her death at 12:45, landing on the North-bound I-35 shoulder. Medics from Lewisville Fire Department, station 5 arrived, but pronounced her deceased with trauma incompatible with life. The fall was calculated to be 69 feet.
Lewisville police had at one point taken interest in an apparently urine-stained sheet in the trunk of the victim's car, and decided that officers needed to be dispatched to the victim's home in Carrollton for a welfare check. The car was taken to Lewisville Police Department for evidence. The Denton County Medical Examiner took over the investigation.
The Lewisville Texan Journal has decided not to release the woman's identity, due to the nature of the incident.
