(Photo by Nancy Loch) Adron Ming, Music Director/ Conductor of the Lewisville Lake Symphony, announced a new competition for college musicians planning a professional career in music. It will focus on piano in even-numbered years and strings in odd years. The first competition, held in 2013, will be for strings.
Said the Maestro, “The competition is open to violins, violas, cellos and bass players between 18 and 24. The first prize winner is awarded $2,000 and performs as guest soloist with the Symphony in the opening concert of the 2013-2014 season in September 2013. The second prize is $500 and an opportunity to perform in the International Chamber Series.”
R Neil Ferguson, the Symphony Association Chair, said that the Symphony received a lot of assistance from board member Dr. Pamela Mia Paul, Regents Professor of Piano at the University of North Texas. “Dr. Paul,” he said, “helped greatly in making sure the Competition’s rules fitted the formats broadly used in the United States and overseas. She also set up the audition venue and logistics at UNT’s College of Music.”
Added Ferguson “The first round requires entrants to submit YouTube performances. A small number of those entrants will be invited to perform in the live audition on March 19, 2013 at UNT in Denton, Texas.”
