In women's roller derby action Saturday night in Denton, the Elm Street Nightmares beat the Hickory Street Hooligans 139-115. Here is the full video:

North Texas Derby Revolution had two home games in a double-header last Saturday night.

The Muertas got off to a great start in this bout, racking up a substantial lead over the Trauma Queens early in the bout. But the Trauma Queens closed the gap, and nearly took it back at the end. Lucky for the Muertas, the clock ran out. Final score: 194-178, Muertas Locas.

Muertas skater and league General Manager Kung Pow Catalina broke her arm early in the first half, getting up to score 5 points before calling off the jam. She had surgery this week and is recovering from a radial fracture.

In the second bout of the evening, The Main Street Mafia beat the Hickory Street Hooligans 171-111.

The Tulsa Derby Militia traveled to Denton, TX and played the Denton County Outlaws Saturday night putting up a hard fight, but ultimately losing to the Outlaws 282-160. This was G.I. Joel's last bout with DCO before he deploys. Semper Fidelis, Joel!

On Saturday, March 9th, 2013, the North Texas Derby Revolution's Fighting Unicorns took on the Cowboy Capital Rollergirls at House of Quad in Denton, TX. Although the Rollergirls led the Unicorns at the end of the first half, the Unicorns turned it around and won 246-177.

Note that we have the announcer incorrect in the credits. Hat Trick Harry replaces Phish Schtick for this bout. We regret the error.

Here is the video from last week's North Texas Derby Revolution league bouts. Sorry they took so long to get posted, but we've been a little swamped. They are posted in full HD, so for best effect, go full screen, and 1080p. If you want to feel like you were actually there, then turn it up loud and chug a beer.

Hooligans vs. Trauma Queens
First up, we had the Hickory Street Hooligans taking on the expansion team, the Trauma Queens. Trauma Queens took an early lead and never looked back. Even though it got close at the end, the Trauma Queens ended up pulling off an impressive victory for a 139-115 final score.

Muertas vs Nightmares
The Elm Street Nightmares took on last year's league champs, the Muertas Locas for the second bout of the 2013 season. In a very exciting and close match, the Nightmares beat the Muertas by just 10 points at 135-125.

DENTON, TX - Saturday night was the season opener for the North Texas Derby Revolution's second season as a league. The women's flat track roller derby league expanded to five teams this season, adding two new expansion teams and redrafting players to all new teams this year.

In addition, rules changes promulgated from the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) in the off season sped up play and increased scoring. In the past, jammers would start from a line far behind the pack, only after the last pack member crossed the line. The new rules require the pack and jammers to start at the same time, eliminating the old tactic of intentional delaying that was pejoratively called "stroller derby".

Saturday night's season opener was a double-header, with the Hickory Street Hooligans facing last year's champions, the Muertas Locas, and the Main Street Mafia taking on the expansion team, the Elm Street Nightmares.

The first bout was a tight contest, with the lead flipping several times. Muertas led by 86-78 at the first half, but the Hooligans ultimately pulled off the win by a solid 193-146. League general manager, Kung Pow Catalina jammed for the Muertas, back from what we thought was a retirement after a second ankle break last season. Armenian Assault-Her, who skated for the Mafia last year was a strong jammer for the Hooligans, as was Tortillanator and Ruby Soho. Muertas' Gnar Fox was recognized as best Jammer of the bout for her persistent and explosive penetration of the Hooligan pack.

Glitter Pisser and Vishis $ami Lishus delivered solid blocking for the Hooligans, with Vishis taking out the entire pack on one hit (51:30) but Party McFly was ultimately recognized for her aggressive blocking with the best blocker of the bout award. The star of the night was Muertas' Turtle, recognized as MVP of the bout. She delivered a seemingly never-ending series of bone-jarring hits to Hooligan jammers.

This was the championship bout for the inaugural season of the North Texas Derby Revolution - Women's flat track roller derby, held on August 4th, 2012. Muertas took an early lead, and maintained it through to the end, crushing Mafia 172-127, a 45 point margin. Play was intense, and aggressive the whole night, with both teams playing awesome derby.

Video: Mafia Blows Past Hooligans, Wins Place in Championship Bout

In flat track roller derby action Saturday night in Denton, the Main Street Mafia beat the Hickory Street Hooligans 160-95. This puts Mafia solidly in first place in league rankings, with 3/1 record. They'll play the Muertas Locas (2/2) in the championship August 4th.

In the mash-up bout featuring members of NTDR and the Denton County Outlaws, the Sugar Skulls beat the Black Magic 116-86.

Texas Team Trail Fishing Tournament Includes Lewisville Lake in 2012

Lewisville Lake has been selected as one of five stops in the inaugural season of the Texas Team Trail fishing tournament circuit, launching in 2012. Anglers will visit Lewisville for a one-day event on Saturday, June 9.

The new circuit, designed exclusively for team competition, made stops at Sam Rayburn Lake, Lake Ray Roberts and Lake Livingston before next weekâs visit to Lewisville. The series championship will be held Oct. 20-21 at Lake Amistad.

âThe Texas Team Trail will create tremendous opportunities for bass tournament anglers throughout the state of Texas,â said Tournament Director Mike Hastings. âThe payout structure is incredible and with a low-cost, budget-friendly entry fee, anglers have a real opportunity to cash in. And when you consider the sponsor bonus contingency prizes available, there's just not another team trail in Texas that delivers this much value to the angler.â

House of Quad to Open Home Facility

Denton, Texas

House of Quad, a North Texas-based roller derby organization, will officially open its doors June 1st of 2012 and will welcome its skaters to its newly-acquired large facility based in Denton, Texas. The building formally known as Hat Trick, used to house an indoor hockey rink. The building will now become home to the newest roller derby training facility, an exciting venture for Denton and its surrounding areas.
