Poster: WhosPlayin Posted: 2008/11/9 19:46:23 These days, electricity is not a luxury item. It's a necessity when living in civilization. We used to have regulated markets where the providers made a fair profit and consumers were protected. Deregulation has turned it into a wild, wild west where speculators and crooks jack up prices and milk consumers. They buy off politicians to let it happen. Republican failure in government leads to consumers getting ripped off and having no recourse. Not only do these robber-barons pay lower tax rates than you and I do, but they've bought off the courts, so they can rip you off and you can't sue them. The homebuilders have done it, so have the insurance industry. So have the telecom and electric industries. Even the very water beneath your land is being sucked out and sold out from under you by folks like T Boone Pickens. It's not a free market. I'd like to see a free market where small business can compete with large business on the basis of Price, Quality, and Service. Unfortunately that is NOT THE CASE today. The big ones have taken everything but the illusion that you can work hard and make it big. Nope, we don't have a free market, we have a WILD market. We had a Republican administration and Congress that wanted the Middle Class to pay for tax breaks for the wealthy, in hopes that the wealthy might somehow tinkle a little bit of it back down to the rest of us. What you describe in your last sentence is called communism. It doesn't work. You might actually try talking to a Democrat sometime and find out what we really believe is an ideal world before you spew forth your uneducated blather. Capitalism works, but the free market is not a god. Human beings elect representation in the form of government, and government sets some ground rules and acts as referee. And the market works better because of it. |
