Saturday night, the North Texas Derby Revolution's Fighting Unicorns took on the Cowboy Capital Rollergirls. Spontaneous dancing often occurs between jams, or during official timeouts, but last night, this happened.
Posted for Brandon Cooper, who loves the Harlem Shake.
We'll have the actual bout video posted within the next few days, hopefully.
DENTON DOES ROLLER DERBY North Texas Derby Revolution hosts first bout in new location!
On Saturday June 30, 2012, NTDR will be holding their first bout at House of Quad, the new all-derby facility located at 222 S. Mayhill Rd in Denton, Texas (formerly Hat Trick Hockey).
Doors open at 6:00, with a starting whistle at 6:30. This kicks off a double-header that includes an important match between the Main St Mafia and the Hickory St Hooligans. If the Mafia win, they will be guaranteed a spot in the season championship in July. If Hooligans win, it will come down to a matter of point spreads: Muertas Locas have 2 wins, Mafia 2, and Hooligans 1, so it is still anyone's game! All events are BYOB (no glass, 21+ only with alcohol please) and BYO chair. Tickets available soon through www.brownpapertickets.com. Children 12 and under are free. Join skaters and fans for the after party at the Abbey Underground on the historic Denton Square.
For this bout, NTDR will be supporting the Russ Martin Listeners Foundation, a DFW-based group which supports the families of police and firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty. NTDR will give a portion of game proceeds to this charity, while fans will have an opportunity to learn more about them and donate as well. Visit http://www.russmartin.com/httpdocs/listeners_foundation.asp for more information.
House of Quad oversees NTDR women's roller derby, Denton County Outlaws men's roller derby, and Rolling Rebellion junior (unisex) derby. The sport of roller derby has been growing quickly around the world, and HOQ has put Denton and North Texas on the map with 3 leagues and a new derby-only facility.
Holy Smack-tastic, Batman! It's ketchup time, I mean, CATCH UP time. Oh how fast the wheels turn in the derby world. It's been a long while since I've written. I guess I kinda left y'all hanging. Oops. Sorry. (Insert lame excuse of preference here.) Enjoy the next installment of the Derby series. (and I'm leaving out the drama of personality conflicts I had with a bonafide sociopath crazy bitch from hell) Let's just say she's an asshat.
The last practice and scrimmage before Saturday's bout, is now over - with the competition adequately sized-up. And some new bruises to show for it.
FUN!! FUN!! FUN!!
Please, if you're coming to the bout - support my team, the Battling Mermaids, and wear orange and green. And above all, remember it's a game and you're there to have FUN!!

It's time to catch you all up a little. So on August 21, I took my endurance laps test. I needed to get 20 laps around the derby rink in 5 minutes minimum. My time was 4:17. This shaved 18 seconds off my previous best time, set in June. Thus, I did well. So I figured it was a no-brainer that I'd be back on my team asap. I was mistaking...

The Battling Mermaids vs. The Fighting Unicorns!
NTDR will open for the Deception. We'll play a half, then they'll play a half, etc.

Today is August 21. It's a Sunday and I'm up early writing this blog post before church. I'm not going to God church this morning - I'm going to Quad church. Today is supposed to be the day I've been waiting on to end this limbo state I've been in for the past month.
There's a calendar contest that one of my gals has entered. During the month of August, you can vote for up to 3 pictures. The top ones selected will go in the calendar. The all-time winner of the pictorial contest will receive 5% of all proceeds the calendar brings in for her league.
Go vote for Kung Pow Catalina, please.
I just did the search and find CTRL F to get through all the others.
