| The Lewisville Lake Symphony presents “Stars of the Future”, a program of Mozart, Chopin, Vieuxtemps, and Weber featuring the Grand Prize Winners of the Vernell Gregg Young Artists’ Competition. The concert begins a 7:30 p.m. on February 17, 2012 at the MCL Grand, 100 Charles Street in Old Town Lewisville across from City Hall.
Adron Ming, the Music Director and Conductor of the Symphony who judged the Competition along with three professors from UNT’s College of Music, said that the number of competitors doubled this year. The first round of 65 was winnowed by listening to performances submitted on CDs. Nineteen contestants were invited to perform, live, in front of the judges.
“The terrific musical talent from all over North Texas made the judging particularly hard,” said maestro Ming. “After considerable discussion, the judges decided that, this year, three contestants would be declared Grand Prize Winners. They are Rhiana Caterisano, clarinet, Claire Wells, violin, and Ximei Li, piano.” In addition to performing with the all-professional Symphony, they share the $1,500 prize money.
The program features Mozart’s Overture to Così fan tutte, and Vieuxtemps’ Violin concerto No.5, plus movements from Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in E Minor, Von Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No.2
Tickets for the concert are $25 adult, $20 senior, and $10 student. There is more information on the concert and the winners at www.lewisvillesymphony.org. You can also book directly from the Symphony site and pull down a map showing the location of the MCL Grand Theater.
The Lewisville Lake Symphony is described by the Dallas Morning News as one of the most respected regional symphony orchestras in Texas.
Ed. Note: We were on-hand for last year's concert, and it was fabulous. Not only did the young musicians totally blow us away with their talent, but the acoustics in the MCL Grand Theater are outstanding. I'm going to reserve my tickets for this, and I hope you'll join me.
